Sony has finally launched its water-resistant Xperia M4 Aqua smartphone and the Xperia Z4 Tablet at the MWC 2015.

The Xperia M4 will be available in Spring this year in more than 80 countries and 100 carriers at a price tag of EUR 299 (roughly Rs. 20,600). Xperia Z4 tablet will be available in June in Wi-Fi only and 4G LTE models, in Black and White colour variants. Unfortunately, no pricing has been revealed yet.

Looking into specification of the Xperia M4 Aqua,the smartphone is the successor of the company’s Xperia M2 Aqua, which was launched in August last year.The Xperia M4 Aqua is also dust and water resistant with IP65/8 certification. The Xperia M4 Aqua runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box. LTE and dual-SIM variants will be available in some markets.

The Xperia M4 Aqua features a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) resolution. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (quad-core 1.5GHz + quad-core 1.0GHz), coupled with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 405 GPU.

It sports 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with Sony Exmor RS mobile image sensor and f/2.0 aperture is housed inside the Xperia M4 Aqua, besides a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, which comes with a wide 88-degree field of view. As for storage, the smartphone comes in 8GB and 16GB of inbuilt storage variants and can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.

A 2400mAh battery is onboard, rated to deliver a talk time of up to 13 hours, and standby time up to 779 hours. Available in both 3G and 4G LTE options, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua equips Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, and USB under the connectivity options.


The other product launch was Xperia Z4 Tablet. Featuring a 10.1-inch display, it is the successor to the Xperia Z2 Tablet. The 6.1mm-thick Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet has IP65 and IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, and can survive immersion up to 30 minutes in 1.5 metres of water.

The tablet comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop. It features a 10.1-inch 2560×1600 pixel IPS Triluminos display, with a 300ppi pixel density. The screen features scratch-resistant glass. The Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia Z4 Tablet LTE runs on the 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM and the Adreno 430 GPU. It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with an Exmor RS sensor, and a 5-megapixel front-facing with a wide-angle lens camera. The tablet features Hi-Res audio playback support, digital noise cancellation, Sony 3D Surround Sound technology (VPT), Clear Audio+, and xLoud tech.

The tablet features 32GB of built-in storage, expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). Connectivity options include 4G LTE (Nano-SIM), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with Direct and hotspot functionality, Bluetooth v4.1 with A2DP, GPS/ A-GPS with GLONASS, NFC, FM radio with RDS, and Micro-USB. The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is powered by a non-removable 6000mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 17 hours of video playback. The tablet weighs 395 grams.
